Another great thing to take your mind from the times was a street car ride. At that time you could ride as far away as Jerome.

There were street dances. A street would be blocked off at each end, a little band played the music, people danced, and for a little while you again could forget the hardships.

In the winter certain steep streets were blocked off with wooden horses and flags for sledding. Sherman and Grant Streets were two.

I am sure these things helped, but I was only a child and I could not experience fully the fear and frustrations and hopelessness of the times.
